About Sigiriya
Rising dramatically from the central plains, the enigmatic rocky outcrop of Sigiriya is perhaps Sri Lanka's single most dramatic sight. Known as the Lion Rock, it was the short-lived capital of King Kasyapa in the 5th century. Visitors can marvel at the water gardens, the ancient frescoes of celestial maidens, the mirror wall, and the enormous lion paws that guard the final ascent to the summit palace ruins. The panoramic view from the top is breathtaking.
