Jaffna

The Tamil heartland — where ancient temples, unique cuisine, and resilience define the north

About Jaffna

Jaffna is the historical center of the Tamil culture in Sri Lanka, offering a distinctively different atmosphere from the rest of the island. After years of isolation, the city is thriving again. Visitors can explore the impressive Nallur Kandaswamy Kovil, the Dutch-built Jaffna Fort, and the fascinating Jaffna Public Library. The local cuisine, with its unique spices and exceptional seafood, is a major highlight.
