About This Journey

Ten action-packed days — surfing Arugam Bay's world-class point break, white-water rafting the Kelani River, hiking to World's End at Horton Plains, abseiling Ella Rock, and riding the legendary Kandy–Ella scenic train.

Sri Lanka is the Indian Ocean's most underrated adventure destination. In a single trip you can surf a world-top-ten wave, hike to an 870-metre cliff edge, raft Grade 3-4 rapids, kayak through mangroves, and ride one of the world's most scenic train routes — all on an island the size of Tasmania.

This ten-day itinerary is built for active travellers who want to cover serious ground and test themselves against the island's best outdoor challenges — with experienced local guides who know every trail, every break, and every descent.

Destinations Visited

Day-by-Day Itinerary

Day1
Arrival in Colombo — Transfer to Kandy
🏨 Kandy

Arrive in Colombo and transfer to Kandy (approximately 3.5 hours). Evening briefing on the adventure itinerary ahead. Early to bed — the next 10 days are full-on.

Day2
Kitulgala — White-Water Rafting
🏨 Kandy

Drive to Kitulgala (the location of Bridge on the River Kwai) for half-day white-water rafting on Grade 3-4 rapids of the Kelani River. Afternoon mangrove kayaking on the calmer stretches. Return to Kandy.

Day3
Scenic Train — Kandy to Ella Through the Clouds
🏨 Ella

Board the morning train at Kandy station. Seven hours through tea estate valleys, mist, waterfalls, and the Nine Arches Bridge at Demodara — consistently rated one of the world's most beautiful train journeys. Arrive Ella at dusk.

Day4
Ella Rock Hike & Little Adam's Peak
🏨 Ella

Early morning hike up Ella Rock with a local guide (approximately 3.5 hours return). The summit gives a 360-degree view across the hill country all the way to the coast. Afternoon: shorter hike to Little Adam's Peak for sunset.

Day5
Horton Plains — World's End at Dawn
🏨 Nuwara Eliya

Drive to Horton Plains, arriving before 7am. The 9.5km circular trail ends at World's End — an 870-metre sheer drop. On clear mornings the view reaches the southern coast. Return via Baker's Falls.

Day6
Transfer to Arugam Bay — East Coast
🏨 Arugam Bay

Full-day transfer across the island to Arugam Bay (approximately 6 hours with stops). Arrive on the east coast just in time for the legendary A-Bay sunset. Meet your surf instructors over dinner.

Day7
Arugam Bay — Surf Lesson Day 1
🏨 Arugam Bay

Morning surf lesson at the main point break. A-Bay's right-hand wave is one of the most consistent in Asia — long, clean, and forgiving enough for beginners while thrilling for intermediates. Afternoon: paddling drills and ocean swimming.

Day8
Arugam Bay — Surf Day 2 & Exploration
🏨 Arugam Bay

Second surf session in the morning. Afternoon: tuk-tuk to Elephant Rock, Crocodile Rock, and the mangrove lagoon where a resident leopard sometimes appears at dusk.

Day9
Arugam Bay — Free Surf & Transfer
🏨 Colombo

Final free surf morning at A-Bay. Afternoon transfer begins toward Colombo for your departure.

Day10
Colombo — Departure

Transfer to Bandaranaike International Airport. Board your flight home with every muscle pleasantly tired.
